Omaha's History and Historical Attractions

Originally inhabited by several Native American tribes, Omaha became a transportation hub during the 19th century. Modern settlement arrived with Lewis and Clark in 1804. Omaha is a city that prizes its history, evidenced by extensive landmark preservation. The city is home to three properties that have been designated National Historic Landmarks, in addition to dozens of historically significant landmarks and nearly one hundred properties listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
