North Dakota Colleges & Universities

With its low unemployment rate, North Dakota provides a wide range of career choices. Post-secondary education at one of the North Dakota's colleges or universities gives graduates a leg up on untrained job seekers.

North Dakota: Jobs Are Bountiful in this Agricultural State
North Dakota has largely escaped the recession plaguing the rest of the county since the fall of 2008. In fact, North Dakota had the nation's fastest economic growth rate during that same year, the U.S. Department of Commerce reports. A few of the industries driving economic gains in the state are:
  •   Agriculture
  •   Forestry
  •   Hunting
  •   Fishing
  •   Oil production
  •   Tourism
  •   Renewable energy

The state's governments also remain fiscally healthy as well, CNN Money reports--which translates to work for North Dakota construction companies. The state still has funding for road, airport, and municipal improvements.

Agriculture is King in North Dakota
In 2009 North Dakota had more head of cattle per square acre--25.3--than people--9.2. The state comprises 44.1 million land acres, with more than 90 percent, or 39.6 million, in farm and ranch land. Wheat and soybeans are North Dakota's top commodities, and the state is also the leading producer of flaxseed, canola, and pinto beans.

North Dakota colleges and state universities offer many different agricultural degree programs that focus on:
  •   Farm production
  •   Agribusiness management and marketing
  •   Agricultural research and engineering
  •   Food science
  •   Processing and retailing
  •   Banking

Renewable energy is also a growth sector. About 500 wind towers have been erected in North Dakota, and manufacturing companies in West Fargo and Grand Forks produce turbine blades and wind towers.
